Simon Memory Game

Four coloured pads light up with a tone in a growing sequence; play it back to advance. Each round adds one step, and the tones give you a second way to remember the pattern. This free version of the classic Simon memory game runs entirely in your browser, with sound you can mute, and no sign-up.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Watch and listen

The pads flash with a tone in a set order. Round one is a single pad; each round adds one.

  2. 2

    Repeat the sequence

Click the pads back in the same order. The colour and the tone both help you remember.

  3. 3

Go as long as you can

One wrong pad ends the game. Your score is the longest sequence you repeated.

Frequently asked questions

How far can people get?
Reaching a sequence in the high teens is a strong run, and most people break somewhere between rounds eight and fifteen. Using the tone as well as the colour helps, because two cues are easier to recall than one.
Can I turn the sound off?
Yes. There is a mute control, and the game still works on colour alone. Browsers also keep audio silent until you interact with the page, so the first tap is what switches the sound on.
What is the trick to remembering?
Hum or sub-vocalise the tones, and give the sequence a rhythm so it plays back like a little tune. Chunking the pattern into groups of three or four also makes a long sequence far easier to hold.
Are my best scores saved?
Your best result for each game is kept in your browser so you have something to beat next time. It lives only on this device, so clearing your browser data or switching to another device starts you fresh. Nothing is tied to an account because there is no account.
Does anything I do here get sent to a server?
No. Every game runs locally in your browser. Your scores and any text you type stay on your own device, nothing is uploaded, and nothing is logged or stored by us. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even if you go offline.
